And he took bread, and when he had given thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” Luke 22:19
This icon features The Last Supper surrounded by depictions of Christ's preachings that he is the Way, the Truth and the Life. The institution of the Holy Eucharist took place when Jesus uttered these words at the Last Supper. He knew he knew his passion was about to begin and he would sacrfice himself for the sake of the salvation of all of us. We not only remember this sacrifice, but we witness the sacrfice every time we attend mass.
