"Let my prayer be counted as incense before thee, and the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice!" Psalm 141:2

For Catholics, the smoke of incense is an outward sign of the spiritual realities of sanctification and purification to prepare ourselves for worship as well as symbolizing our prayers being lifted to God in heaven with all the angels and saints. Incense is an integral part of Chrisitan liturgy, and it is becoming increasingly popular to use it in the home as part of elevating prayers and devotions in the home.

We offer 3 blends of Prinknash Incense: Priory, Basilica and Sanctuary. Each pack includes 50g of incense and a roll of 5 quick lighting charcoal disks, sealed in foil. The Benedictine Monks of Prinknash Abbey have been blending incense since 1906, when the community was on Caldey Island and are now the oldest major incense blenders in Europe.

Priory

Priory is pure frankincense with no additional oils added. Frankincense, or gum olibanum, comes from South Arabia and the Horn of Africa, and has been used as the basis of incense for several thousand years. This would be a particularly lovely one to use around through Advent, Christmas and Epiphany since frankincense was one of the gifts of the Magi

Basilica

As well as frankincense and its own mixture of essential oils, Basilica contains two other solid incenses making it out most complex blend. It developed out of attempts to copy a recipe for incense in the Book of Exodus and for many it is the distinctively Prinknash incense. This is the most popular blend and reminds us the most of the incense in churches.

Sanctuary

Based on recipes developed by the monks, the Sanctuary incense is a blend of pure frankincense and natural oils which has it's own distinctive fragrance and aroma. Decades of care in the blending of this incense has ensured excellence.
