The holy water font is made of resin and depicts the apparition of Our Lady to St. Bernadette Soubirous in the grotto at Lourdes, France. It can be wall mounted or stand alone on a flat surface. Our Lady appeared in Lourdes in 1858 to St. Bernnadette who was a 14-year-old peasant girl. When St. Bernadette asked the lady she saw what her name was she replied, "I am the Immaculate Conception". Mary in white robes with a blue sash and a rose at each foot is how she appeared St. Bernadette in Lourdes. The apparitions were officially approved by the Catholic Church in 1862 after a thorough investigation. The shrine remains one of the most popular pilgrimage sites and the water from the grotto's spring has been attributed to many miracles, especially miraculous physical healings. The feast of Our Lady of Lourdes is 11th of February, and the feast of St. Bernadette is 18th of February.
About Holy Water
Keeping holy water in the home to bless oneself throughout the day, especially upon waking and before bed and when leaving the home, is a long held Catholic domestic church tradition. It's a wonderful way to keep the spiritual health of your home refreshed!
Holy Water has been used since Old Testment times for purifications, blessings and rituals. For Catholics, Holy Water is a sacramental (meaning, an extension of a sacraments) that reminds us of our baptism and symbolises spirtual cleansing and renewal. When a priest blesses fresh water, God's blessing and graces are imparted on those who use it. It is used for exorcisms, baptisms, the sick, strength against temptations, house blessings, and much more! As with all sacramentals, the graces are to draw us closer to Christ.
