100 percent raw beeswax, naturally dyed

"When the Church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present this ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for the Saviors first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for His second coming." (Catechism of the Catholic Church 524)

These all-natural beeswax candles celebrate the Advent season by glorifying God through His own creation. The use of beeswax candles in Catholicism is an ancient tradition that many Catholics like to bring into their homes. These will bring environmental and spiritual health and warmth during the winter nights as we anticipate the arrival of the Light of Christ at Christmas.

Why do Catholics use Beeswax Candles?

Clayton Bower Jr. wrote this beautiful explanation of beeswax candles for Catholic Answers:

“The pale wax of the candle symbolizes Christ’s flesh, his sacred humanity. The wick, embedded in the centre of the candle, represents his soul. The flame, as it burns down the wick, consumes the wax to give us light. It burns, expending itself, sacrificing itself, just as Christ sacrificed himself. The burning candle is aesthetically pleasing, and it gives a sweet aroma as it burns, another reminder of the presence of our Lord.

The wax produced by the honeybee is considered the sweetest and purest, the most appropriate for symbolizing the humanity of Christ.

It is produced by the bees actually consuming honey (honey itself is a symbol for the superlative in sweetness, the sweetness of the Word of God). Christ identifies himself as the Light of the World and he says in Luke 12:49, “I have come to light a fire on the Earth. How I wish the blaze were ignited!” A flame will spread to what it touches.

The candle also symbolizes Christ’s presence in the individual believer. The Easter Vigil shows this when the new flame is lit, blessed, and touched to the tapers held by members of the congregation, The light spreads from one to the next.”

Note about the colours and size

The Christmas candle is a natural beeswax colour. When a candle is white and marketed as beeswax, it means the beeswax has been bleached. We want to make sure the candles we offer are as natural as possible, so you won't see a white beeswax candle here!

Sizes and burn time are a close approximate due to the handmade nature of the candles.

    Materials

Wax: Only raw and natural beeswax extracted from hives is used. This is not a synthetic, factory made "beeswax" prevailing on the market.

    Wick: 100% cotton

Dyes: All natural mineral based dyes.

Features: Non-dripping (assuming upright placement) and long, clean smokeless burn, does not stain, subtle natural sweet honey scent.

Handmade in an apiary in Hertfordshire, UK

  • 100% beeswax candles add a natural and subtly sweet aroma to your home and purify the air with negative ions and deodorize the air without artificial fragrances.

They do not go through any chemical processing, which means they burn cleaner and brighter than other wax candles. Many candles on the market may have beeswax with paraffin added or are made of synthetically produced beeswax which produces toxic byproducts. These candles are all natural and raw beeswax, hand dipped in the UK.

Raw beeswax has a high burn point than other types of waxes which results in a significantly longer burn time making them more economical in the long term.

Beeswax candles have so many more benefits and are a beautiful way to elevate life and enjoy God’s nature in our homes.
